CloudTec® is the core cushioning technology in every On running shoe. Instead of using a single foam midsole, it features a system of individual hollow pods or “clouds” that compress on landing and lock together during push-off.
Each cloud element compresses both vertically and laterally, adapting to the runner’s footstrike. This allows the system to absorb impact where it occurs and create a stable base during transition. The result is a ride that is both cushioned and responsive.
Unlike traditional midsoles that deliver uniform cushioning, CloudTec® adapts to the foot’s unique motion. Each pod functions independently, which supports natural gait patterns and reduces pressure on specific areas of the foot.
CloudTec® is designed to work in tandem with On’s Helion™ superfoam and Speedboard® plate. Together, they form an integrated system that absorbs impact, transfers energy and provides a fluid, rolling transition from heel to toe.
Variations of CloudTec® include dual-layer cushioning for increased impact protection, and CloudTec Phase® for staggered, sequential compression. Each design is tailored to the specific purpose of the shoe it supports.
