The On Cloudsurfer is back—launching on 23 March 2023—with a radical redesign that introduces CloudTec Phase™ for the smoothest ride ever.

Over a decade ago, On revolutionised the running world by blending performance and comfort to create the now-iconic “running on clouds” sensation. Today, engineers at On Labs have taken that innovation even further. Using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), they studied how running shoe materials affect the human body—leading to the development of a completely new midsole structure.

The result is CloudTec Phase™: a midsole system engineered for seamless heel-to-toe transitions and maximised cushioning. Newly shaped Helion™ superfoam elements collapse like dominos, interlocking with each footstrike for a rolling, energy-efficient stride.

High-traction rubber pads on the outsole enhance grip in both wet and dry conditions. The updated Cloudsurfer also eliminates the traditional Speedboard®, reducing weight and material use—a step forward in both performance and sustainability.

The upper is made entirely from recycled materials and coloured using a water-saving dope-dyeing process that reduces water usage by 95% compared to conventional methods. This makes the new Cloudsurfer a milestone not just in comfort and design, but also in eco-conscious engineering.

While On’s classic CloudTec® remains a key technology across the range, the 2023 Cloudsurfer is the first to debut CloudTec Phase™—with more models to follow.

Retailing at R2999.00, the new On Cloudsurfer is available in South Africa from 23 March via Tifosi Sports and other authorised retailers nationwide.
