We asked you to nominate your everyday champions to win a fabulous pair of On performance shoes and you didn’t disappoint!

What we learned from this competition is that there are so many amazing people in South Africa giving back to their families and communities and expecting nothing in return. Mzansi: you go beyond when it comes to kindness!

Here are our winning everyday champions:

Fanna Shezi - a security guard. He was nominated by Anny Naidoo who says, “He is filled with the purest care and kindness. He is always so positive, polite, and ready to help carry my bags. Fanna works really long hours to provide for his family.” Anny continued, “Fanna Shezi, we salute you!"

Nicoletta Moathlodi named her dad, Jafta Moathlodi, as her everyday hero. “He is the best father in the world,” she says. Jafta has taught his daughter some beautiful lessons throughout her life, including patience, wisdom, and how to care for others. That said, though, Nicoletta knows there are still many more lessons to learn from him.

Raymond Velebayi is a security guard at a residential complex and he was nominated by Jackie Wells for his kindness and willingness to go above and beyond for those who live there. According to Jackie, he is always ready to help with a smile and is an incredible person. “He makes our day just being here,” says Jackie.

Selona Govender was determined to make Eric Ndlovu’s year when she nominated him. Eric is her helper’s son and she has known him since he was at school. “He has grown into a kind and gentle young man who's always willing to help. He is honest, respectful, and very hard working,” says Selona, “I would love to spoil Eric this festive season.”

Padmani Moodley provides assistance to a homeless lady named Lucy Matunie, who relies on recycling various products for an income. Lucy sometimes goes hungry, walking great distances in the heat to make a living, even going barefoot. Padmani nominated Lucy so that she could have a good pair of shoes while she goes about her recycling work. “It would make her entire year,” says Padmani.

Cathryn Aylett is a lady who is deeply involved with charity and community outreach work. She works with charities that aid the blind and help girls leave the sex work industry. During the KZN riots, Cathryn cooked for 300 people and made sure that the communities had some hot coffee. Katalin Mercer nominated this inspiring woman. Cathryn is currently battling cancer, and Katalin wanted to make sure that she got back just a little something after all she has already given to others. “Her bravery, determination, positive attitude, brilliant sense of humour, and complete willingness to put others before herself, makes her the most inspirational, remarkable woman I know,” says Katalin.

Nonhlanhla Ndlovu nominated her husband Kedibone. He is recovering from illness and is taking care of his health by going to gym to regain his mobility. “This man changed my life for the better. A pair of On shoes would be the best gift ever for Kedibone especially for his fitness journey. I love him so much,” says Nonhlanhla.

Debbie Williams nominated Chloe Williams, her daughter-in-law. Debbie says that Chloe has helped their family in so many ways. Not only does Chloe take care of her family, but she also takes care of many others in her community. “She is the most giving person I’ve met,” says Debbie. "Chloe’s selfless efforts sometimes means that she doesn’t do nice things for herself. Now you too can walk on clouds, Chloe, just like all those you help so generously.”

We often don’t give a thought to those who perform services like driving water tankers to the areas where there have been water outages. However, Precious Matsebula has kept Thulani Maluka, the driver of the water tanker in her area, top of mind. “He's always on time to provide clean water,” says Precious. “Thank you for your hard work!”

Motlalepula Mokhele introduced his sister, Nthathsi, to fitness. He is preparing for his very first Comrades Marathon and Nthathsi wanted to show her deep appreciation for her brother and the inspiration he had brought to her life when she nominated him.

Noluvo Kwinana nominated Amanda Kwinana for being one of the most selfless people she knows. “Amanda,” Noluvo says, “helps underprivileged people in their community by making sure they have food and clothes.”

Danie Roux’s arthritis leaves him in pain, which is why Catherine Roux, his wife, nominated him. Despite the pain he experiences, he continues to work hard. “He is never off sick,” she says. “We hope that some On performance shoes will make things a lot more comfortable for Danie.”
