On his website, he is described as someone with a “warm and slightly eccentric personality”, and reading Tim Don’s story, it’s easy to see why these words ring true.
Tim is a three-time Olympian who broke the Ironman World Record at the Ironman South American Championship in Florianopolis, Brazil in 2017, but his greatest challenge was yet to come.
While doing final preparations for the 2017 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, Tim was struck by a car, leading to him breaking his neck on the eve of what he was hoping would be his most prestigious achievement yet.
Tim’s biggest tribulation led to perhaps his biggest triumph – but Tim would be The Man with the Halo before any of this.
Tim Don is an On ambassador, and the On Cloudflow is his preferred running shoe when taking part in triathlons. Says Tim: “I feel the shoes give me an edge on the competition. As my training is so consistent, I now have a shoe for all sessions – from the track to racing to easy runs to trail runs.”
Tim Don is competing in the Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay on 7 April. Keep an eye out for this force of nature, and don’t forget to drop by a meet and greet at the Radison Blu Hotel in Port Elizabeth on 5 April at 08:30.
