When World Duathlon Champion and multiple Ironman winner Olivier Bernhard started his search for a running shoe that minimised impact on the ground while providing a speedy push-off, he could have never imagined that a simple experiment with a common garden hose glued to a racing flat would lead to one of the greatest innovations in running shoe technology to date.
Today, the unlikely prototype that would develop into the patented and award-winning CloudTec® technology has made On running shoes among the most sought-after in the world, among professional and everyday athletes alike.
There’s a new kid on the running block, and the latest addition to the On stable promises to provide even better cushioning and push-off technology than ever before.
The new Cloudstratus
Launching globally on June 20th, the On Cloudstratus features the latest innovation with regards to On’s CloudTec® technology. A new dual sequential cushioning system means that this shoe incorporates not one, but two distinct levels of CloudTec®, working in unison to create a run that is softer than ever before, while not compromising on the explosive take-offs runners have come to expect from On shoes.
How it works
Expanding on the existing technologies used in On running shoes, the outsole of the new On Cloudstratus features a dual layer of hollow pods, called clouds. The first layer of pods collapse when your foot hits the ground, propelling you into forward motion. The addition of a second layer of clouds magnifies this effect, absorbing residual impact and providing extra propulsion for those moments when you need a take-off to drive you forward.
The adapted structure of the Cloudstratus now sees clouds being added to the forefoot to increase the contact area, distribute pressure and enhance the explosive motion of the Speedboard in the midsole of the shoe.
The Cloudstratus has also been adapted from its predecessors in terms of the upper, which now sees an asymmetric design and anatomically oriented lacing system with two eyelet options for increased forefoot control and customisation.
The Cloudstratus has been engineered for runners that need more cushioning and support on long runs, and the latest offering from On – a running shoe manufacturer that has managed to sell 5 million of its shoes in just eight years – expands and improves on the running shoe leader’s product offering, truly making On a manufacturer that caters for all types of runners.
Whether you’re a weekend warrior or tend to take your running more seriously, you’ll love what the Cloudstratus brings to the road or trail. Contact your nearest On running shoes distributor to get your hands on a pair from 20 June 2019.
