News24 recently reported that there has been unhappiness about the announcement that this year’s Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon – the 50th rendition of this prestigious race – would not be broadcast on the SABC, as has been the case in the past. Speaking to Sport24, a spokesperson from Athletics South Africa said that, “ASA and SABC no longer have a contract. There are ongoing efforts and negotiations to find a replacement host broadcaster.”
The marathon, which is set to take place on Saturday, 20 April, is called “the world’s most beautiful race”, and sees hundreds of athletes from all corners of the world take part.
As a part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, organisers have announced the inclusion of a new Marathon Relay event, as well as the Cape Town International Friendship Run, in addition to the traditional fun run and trail run events.
Livestreaming the OMTOM
After the announcement that the SABC would not broadcast the race this year, livestreaming of the event was announced. If you’d like to follow the action on race day, you’ll be happy to hear that SABC Sport commentator, Cuan Walker, and media consultant and journalist, Manfred Seidler, have taken it upon themselves to make sure you don’t miss a piece of the running excitement this coming weekend.
To access a livestream of the event, follow Cuan and Manfred on Twitter and Facebook, where they will place a link to the livestream.
The half marathon section of the OMTOM will start at 05:50, and the marathon, comprising 56km, will start at 06:40 on Saturday, 20 April.
