Here’s an 8-week training schedule for your next half marathon

A half marathon is often described as a “dress rehearsal” for a marathon. If you’ve always had the ambition to run the Comrades Marathon one day, running a half marathon isn’t just a requirement for qualification, it is also the perfect training to lay the foundations for a marathon.

Preparing for a half marathon is significantly less intense than training for a marathon, but even so, a training schedule is an indispensable part of your preparation. Luckily, there are a number of half marathons happening throughout the year, so there is plenty of time to get ready. If you’re planning to run one soon, though, this 8-week training schedule for beginners will have you ready to go in (almost) no time.

This programme has been worked out for a half marathon that takes place on a Sunday, but you can adjust it if the race you’re planning to tackle takes place on a different day. Don’t disregard the rest days – they’re there for a reason, and are an important mental and physical break in your training regime. Happy training!
